Recently, many residents got together at the Longhui Community Party-Mass Service Center in SIP’s Weiting Sub-district to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Unlike other celebrations, this event, organized by the sub-district’s social assistance service center, intentionally blended people living in difficult circumstances with other community members.
“This is to avoid labeling people in need,” explained Jin Rongfang from the sub-district’s resident service center, “True respect means letting warmth flow naturally.”

The event offered the participants chances to experience traditional culture related to the Chinese New Year. One volunteer, previously housebound due to mental health challenges, confidently assisted others in creating auspicious woodcut prints. Another, from a family living on basic living allowance, served tangyuan (stuffed small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour) to others. Like them, many people have transformed from those who receive help to those who give.
